|
Chocolate hills are placed in the center of Bohol. There is said to be 1268 hills. They are 30 to 50 meters tall and covered with grass. The name comes from the brown color the hills has in the end of the dry season when the grass is all dryed up.
Best time to view the spectacular sight is in the early morning when the sun raises. A good spot is at the Chocolate Hills Complex where its also possible to stay.
There are more explainations of how the hills been created - what is sure is that they are made of marine limestone luing on top of impermable clay soils.
To old legends:
1) Two giants was fighting for days throwing stones and sand at each other. In the end they wer both so exhausted and sore from fighting that they made friends and left the island without tidy uip the battlefield after them.
2) Arogo, a young and unusually strong giant, fell in love with an ordinary mortal, Aloya. After Aloyas death, Arogo cried bitterly. The hills are the remaining proof of his grief, as the tears turned into hills
